Which way should you cross?

Government ferry: cheapest by far for one to three people, but it runs to a timetable and the last boat leaves at about 8:30 PM. Check if you will make it.
Sea Coach / Sea Bird: about US$50 per person each way. It is faster and Sea Coach lands at Aberdeen with a free airport bus, so it adds up quickly for families.
Road via Port Loko: a whole car costs about NLe 2,500 to 3,500. It makes sense for larger groups with lots of luggage who would rather not cross by boat.
Land late: sleep by the airport and cross in daylight. A room is from US$50, which is the price of one Sea Coach seat.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a trip to Sierra Leone cost?

For one traveller the airport-to-Freetown crossing alone can be about US$10 with the government ferry or about US$50 each way with Sea Coach. A room by the airport starts at US$50 a night. Use the planner for your own mix of crossing, stay, drivers and day trips.

What is the cheapest way from Lungi Airport to Freetown?

The government ferry at about US$3 per person, plus about NLe 350 to 400 by taxi to the Tagrin terminal and kekehs on the Freetown side. It only works before the last ferry, at about 8:30 PM.

Is it cheaper to drive from Lungi to Freetown?

A whole car by road via Port Loko costs about NLe 2,500 to 3,500. For one or two people the ferry is cheaper. For a group of four or five with a lot of luggage, the road can compete, but it is slow.

Do I need to sleep at Lungi on arrival?

Not always, but if you land after mid-afternoon it is safer than gambling on the last ferry. A room by the airport is from US$50 a night with 24-hour reception.

Are these prices fixed?
