Accommodation for Your Sierra Leone eVisa: What to Book and What to Avoid

Several visa guides list a hotel booking, or a host's invitation letter, among the documents for a Sierra Leone tourist eVisa. This page explains what to arrange, and why a real booking is the only safe kind.

What the guides say you may need

• A passport valid well beyond your departure date, with blank pages.
• A confirmed onward or return flight.
• Proof of where you will stay: a hotel booking, or an invitation letter from a host in Sierra Leone.
• Proof of funds, passport-style photos, and a yellow fever vaccination certificate for non-West-African arrivals.

Use a real booking, not a placeholder

Some agencies advertise free "dummy" hotel reservations for visa files. Do not submit a booking you do not intend to use. A false document can be treated as misrepresentation at the border. A genuine reservation that you can cancel for free, or a host's letter, is the safer route.

Which first night to book

Your first night is the one most affected by the geography. Freetown airport is in Lungi, across the water from the capital, and boats generally do not cross at night (see does Freetown have an airport?). If you land in the evening or overnight, a first night in Lungi is both the practical choice and a perfectly good address for the visa file, followed by whatever Freetown or beach stay you have planned.
